Recurrent Tooth Decay

Recurrent tooth decay under dental restorations
(fillings, veneers, crowns & bridges)

Recurrent decay is decay that occurs around or under an existing dental restoration (i.e. filling, veneer, crown or bridge).  Recurrent decay occurs for two main reasons, poor margin integrity of the existing restorations and poor oral hygiene. The radiograph below show decay under two crowns next to an implant. The advantage of dental implant restorations is that their ability to withstand decay. The crowns and teeth were removed, implants placed and a new crowns fabricated.
